Over 60 coaches and 16 clubs attend the first session on Sunday March 5th in Denmark

03/07/06 9:00 AM

ODENSE, DENMARK (Tuesday, March 07, 2006) – A record number of coaches registered and attended the course on Developing the Creative Personality of Female Players this past Sunday.  Over 60 coaches and 17 clubs attended the sessions.  "Unbelievable!  Never have we had that many coaches attend a course like this.  It's great!" said Gantzhorn, former Women's National Team coach and former Director of Coaching Education for the FBU region of Denmark.  Keld Gantzhorn was responsible for setting up the program before leaving his position as director.

The course is focused on training coaches to develop and implement curriculum on developing the creative personality in female players.  Coaches spent 6 and 1/2 hours on Sunday observing training sessions conducted by George Sasvari, participating as players, and in the classroom reviewing the curriculum.  Additionally this week, a different group of players are being taught each night for 2 hours as directed by the Sasvari and trained by coaches attending the course.  On the first night of training over 50 players attended in temperatures below freezing and snow to participate in the sessions with their coaches.  The record temperatures and late snow for this time of year has not curbed their enthusiasm for learning the curriculum that is slowly taking hold in Denmark.  "I think the coaches appreciate the balance between the tactical side of Danish football and the creative attacking side of U.S. football." according to Sasvari.   The appreciation is growing as clubs are requesting extra time in Sasvari's schedule to handle personally work with their clubs.

Odense Boldklub defeat 3rd place Skovbakken on the road!

09/04/05 9:00 PM

SKOVBAKKEN, DENMARK (Sunday, September 04, 2005) – Odense Boldklub shocked Skovbakken with a 1-0 victory over the 3rd place team at their ground and in front of their home crowd.  After a 0-0 halftime score line, OB scored 15 minutes into the second half when Nanna Rasmussen scored on a near post shot from the left side.  Maria Juul played the ball wide to Rasmussen who got behind the Skovbakken defense.  The goal was crowded with near and far post runners freezing the GK and Rasmussen finished with a blast between the GK and the post.  Nanna Rasmussen was the player who's family hosted FC America player from Orlando, Melissa Battista.

The victory was the first shutout for OB and the second game without a loss (OB tied Team Viborg 1-1 in their last game).  It also moved OB into 7th place but only 1 point out of 5th and within reach of the bronze medal 3rd place spot.  "I was really happy for the girls.  I'll live to coach another day, but for these girls who made such a huge investment in hard work, emotional commitment, energy, and focus, they really needed this to validate the themselves as a team on the rise" said George Sasvari.

Goalkeeper Stinna Lykke (national team under 21 player) made several saves in the next 15 minutes to frustrate Skovbakken.  Defenders Maria Claussen, Stine Baagoe, and Signe Dali chased and harassed Skovbakken's star forwards Lene Jensen, Nanna Johannsen.  Midfielders Juul, Rasmussen, Lonne Godskesen, and Stine Kristensen consistently put together strings of passes and created multiple chances to score as well as pressured opposing players into mistakes.  OB's forwards Stella Godwin (Nigerian National team) and Rikke Kroner combined with each other and the midfield almost getting a 2nd goal that would have out the game out of reach for Skovbakken.

Odense Boldklub experience will make a difference for a long time!

08/20/05 9:00 AM

ODENSE, DENMARK (Saturday, August 20, 2005) – "Something I'll remember for the rest of my life" was how sixteen year old Melissa Battista characterized her stay with Odense Boldklub in Denmark's Elite Division (3F League).  After spending the past 2 weeks training and playing 3 matches, Battista brings home international experience to her U17 Kumba team.  She finished out her stay in a tough match against Brondby, the league defending champions.

Brondby started the game with 7 full internationals that start for the Denmark Women's National team while OB's starting line-up was an average of 18 years old.  Sixteen year-old Battsita started in central midfield and chased Gitte Anderson, Anne Dot Eggers, Catherine Paaske-Sorensen for most of the match before leaving with 5 minutes left.  All three players represented Denmark in the European Championships this past July in England.

OB wins 3-1 as Battista sets up the go ahead goal just before halftime!

08/10/05 10:00 PM

ODENSE, DENMARK (Wednesday, August 10, 2005) – Sixteen year old Melissa Battista set up the go ahead goal just before halftime for Odense Boldklub's (OB) FA Cup match last night against Kolding in Denmark.  OB took the lead midway through the first half 1-0 off an Eva Vester goal and was sitting fairly comfortable when Kolding scored a tying goal against the run of play.  Then in the 42nd minute Battista ran down a ball outside the penalty area, turned back to the inside and sent a bending ball to Ndidi Kanu outside the top of the arc.  The Nigerian pushing up from her stopper position sent her 2nd touch screaming over the keeper's head and just under the cross bar.  OB went into halftime with the 2-1 lead and never looked back.

OB went on to score a 3rd goal and win 3-1 while dominating the remainder of the game having just missed scoring a 4th and 5th goal.  For Battista, who left the game in the 65 minute, it was a satisfying feeling to contribute to the team.  "Hopefully I can do more in the next game and end with more than one assist." said Battista.  Odense Boldklub plays on the road this Sunday against league champions and famous perennial power Brondby.  Battista is expected to play against 7 full internationals in the match which the defending champions are heavily favored to win as OB may be missing 3 more starters due to injury.

FC America U17 player to fill in as an amateur for injured players in OB's first three matches!

08/02/05 12:00 PM

ODENSE, DENMARK (Wednesday, August 3, 2005) – Melissa Battista , 16 years old, joins her club coach George Sasvari for a true international experience representing FC America Soccer Academy (FCA).  Her FCA Kumba Under 17 girls team in Orlando have loaned her to Odense Boldklub (OB) to help solve their short-term injury problems.  Battista is expected to fill in at midfield and play a role in getting the season started until OB gets their full roster back.  "I am excited for her to learn how special Danish Women's football can be as I have for the past 2 weeks."  said George Sasvari, Head Coach for OB and also Battista's club coach for FC America Kumba.  "Melissa should be able to take a lot out of this experience to both help her improve her game and learn from a very pleasant culture."

OB is out several players due to injury from off-season surgery including Stella Godwin, who represented Nigeria in the 2004 Olympics.   "It would be great if Stella can make it back as it would be a neat experience for Melissa to train and play along side her talent."  In the meantime Melissa will see some old faces from the United States as 3 players on OB participated in Sasvari's International Academy in 2004.  Stine Kristensen, Maria Clausen, and Rikke Kronberg all trained under Sasvari in the U.S. at Lake Highland Prep for 10 days.  They will join team captain Maria Juul in welcoming Melissa to Denmark.  "I don't know what to expect, but I hope to add whatever I can to the team.  It will be a different experience than playing back home - a little culture shock probably."

It will be a challenge for Melissa to keep up with the speed of play at this level just as it will for all our younger players," according to Sasvari, "but I know she will adjust as will the rest of our team.  One of the things I see in common between our Kumba players and our OB team is the fighting spirit in their personality.  They both want to be winners" <more>

Odense Boldklub  has agreed to a short term contract with George Sasvari as Head Coach for Women's Professional team!

06/25/05 9:00 AM

ODENSE, DENMARK (Saturday, July 16, 2005) – One of Denmark's premier clubs in women's football has hired George Sasvari to kick-start their new season and bring back the winning tradition of the past.  Odense Boldklub (OB) is in wait for their new coach who is not available until February 2006.  Meanwhile, Sasvari has been hired by OB to fill in until November.  Sasvari will act as the interim Head Coach.  "We in OB are very happy about our agreement", said Torben Poulsen, General Manager for OB. "It is a new angle to Danish women's soccer, and we have big expectations to the developing of our young team in the 3F Elite Women's League".

Poulsen went on to say, "To get a trainer with that experience on this short notice is very lucky.
The 4 girls form OB that visit Sasvari in his camp last summer are all very happy to get him to Denmark, that along with Keld Gantzhorn's recommendation, made the choice go the way of George Sasvari.

OB finished just above the relegation zone last season, avoiding movement to the 1st division lower league.  The top teams in the league to beat are Brondby and Fortuna Hjorring, who finished 1 - 2 respectively.  OB will find out early where they are as they go to Brondby on the road for the 2nd match of the new season on August 14.

"I feel honored and privileged to have been offered this opportunity.  Odense Boldklub has a great tradition with 2 League and 3 Danish Cup championships", said George Sasvari.  "This is a chance that does not come along often.  While in Denmark I hope to showcase American training methods and contribute to the success of a premier women's program.  Along with that I should come back a better coach for my teams in the U.S. and for Champions Soccer and Champions Sports Complex."

Kenya Football Federation and the SasvariWay!

ORLANDO, FLORIDA (Wednesday, February 23, 2005) – The Kenyan Football Federation has adopted training ideas and philosophy from the SasvariWay curriculum.  "The SasvariWay concept has been of great here with us" says John Boboyugi, head of Youth Soccer Development in Kenya for the Federation.

According to Boboyugi, the shortcomings with African soccer players keeps them behind the strong Europeans.  "Finding creative solutions within the team concept has been difficult for African players so we have been working on keeping possession through the individual, group, and team concepts learned in the U.S.  Our goal is to teach youth players to solve problems in the game without the guidance of the coach."

John Boboyugi attended the SasvariWay Residential Training Center at Lindsey Wilson College and after learning the curriculum decided to adopt it's concepts for youth development in Kenya.  Mr. Boboyugi has worked with national team players and aids African players in gaining acceptance into colleges in the United States.  He also works on FIFA's Technical Staff.

GLASGOW, SCOTLAND (Monday, September 06, 2004) – The home to football as it is known throughout the world has invited George Sasvari, Director of Player Development for FC America Academy in Orlando and soccer entrepreneur in the United States, to provide coaching leadership on player development for the Scottish Federation of Football Coaches (SFFC) in Glasgow, Scotland.

Scottish youth players and coaches will attend programs called Creative Player Development, offered by SFFC, that will expose players to a unique methodology designed by Sasvari to change the way players are developed throughout the country.  Scotland’s current worldwide ranking of 59 has them falling off the world cup soccer map and serves as their primary motivation in revamping their youth development.

The program will take place from September 23rd – 28th in Paisley, a suburb of Glasgow, Scotland.  The relationship with SYFA started when Sasvari was invited to Scotland in July of 2003 to present ideas on player development through clinics for coaches and players.

During past visits Sasvari has trained the Under 14 and 16 Boys National Squads as well as the Under 19 Western Regional Squad.  SFFC and the Scottish Youth Football Association (SYFC) has since been working with George Sasvari to develop a plan for implementing the unique coaching methods on both a regional and national level.

Creative Player Development, designed by Sasvari, focuses on putting players at the centerpiece of their development.  Coaches learn how to enhance a player’s creativity, imagination, and inventiveness.  Players develop responsibility for their decisions by learning to read the game and find creative solutions to problems they face on the field.

John Hardie, President of Paisley United FC and longtime Kit Manager to the professional clubs in Scotland, has watched Sasvari train teams from his club.  Hardie deemed the coaching sessions "Brilliant!  George gained the respect of all the Scottish coaches."

Jim Smith, coach for Paisley United and National Manager for the Under 15’s, said "We experienced the Sasvari Way in 2002 when we were over at the Schwan's USA Cup and took part in a Finishing Topic Course, that helped us through the season and we ended up winning the Scottish Amateur Youth league."
