WARM-UP:
FOOTWORK
WITH THE BALL
(moves are practiced both individually and facing
a partner):
-
Step-Over
- with the ball in front step over the ball
going around it so that it is between your
legs when you step around it - then turn the
opposite way and dribble away.
-
Double
Step-Over - step-over with the right foot,
step-over with the left foot, then turn back
the opposite direction and dribble away.
-
Cruyf
turn - moving with the ball in one direction,
change directions by chopping the ball behind
the opposite foot.
Emphasize:
use the
entire body including head, shoulders, and leaning
hard to sell the fakes, accelerate after faking
and pushing ball into space for room to
accelerate.
EXERCISE
1: Turning
with the goal behind you and with the inside of the foot
Organization:
Red attacker comes for the ball after eye
contact with teammate and turns to dribble through the
goal behind her. Yellow does the same in the
opposite direction.

Emphasize: The
striker must turn the head and look behind before
the ball arrives. The player serving should play 2
touches, looking up after a small 1st touch to make eye
contact with the striker and then passing the ball on
the 2nd touch.
EXERCISE
2: Coming
for the ball with the goal behind you and faking the
turn and letting the ball run.
Organization:

Emphasize: Same
as above
EXERCISE
3: 1
v 1 to two small goals
Organization:
Attacker in Red receives the ball from her
teammate. Yellow defender also comes out to
defend. Red attacker reads the defender and
chooses to turn and attack either of the two small
goals.

Emphasize:
The attacker should focus on using the turns learned
earlier in the training. Attacker must read the
defenders movements in order to turn quickly toward the
goal that is open.
Match
Conditions Exercise:
3 v 3 (or 4 v 4) Field
is 20m. wide and 40m. long with 4 small goals
Organization:
The
attacking team must dribble through the goal NOT
pass it through. Each team has a choice
of 2 small goals to attack on the end of the
field.

Emphasize:
Use the
turns learned earlier in the training session, Attack
space, dribble at angles, use change of speed -
accelerate past defenders, attack the goal with
the fewest defenders.

Training
March 29 - April 3, 2007
WARM-UP:
3 v 3 (or 4 v 4) Three attackers versus 3
defenders. (Field
is 40m. wide and 20m. long with 3 small goals on
each end)

The
three attackers start with one ball each and
attack the opposite line. Defenders attempt
to win the ball and counter attack. Balls
are in play until a goal is scored or the ball is
put out of bounds. All players are active
until all the balls have been scored or played out
of bounds.
Emphasize:
Attack
space, dribble at angles, use change of speed -
accelerate past defenders.
FOOTWORK
WITH THE BALL
(moves are practiced both individually and facing
a partner):
-
Inside
Chop - Outside Touch (chop inside right -
touch outside left and then visa versa)
-
Pull
the ball with the sole of the right foot -
push the ball away toward the left with teh
outside of the left foot. The ball
should move in the shape of the letter
"V" as it moves from the right to
the left and then visa versa.
-
Fake
outside right - Go outside left (fake behind
the ball with the outside of the foot)
-
Double
Scissors and Go
Emphasize:
use the
entire body including head, shoulders, and leaning
hard to sell the fakes, accelerate after faking
and pushing ball into space for room to
accelerate.
EXERCISE
1: 1
v 1 to Ball

Organization:
Players partner up into groups of 2.
One player starts with the ball as the attacker,
one player starts as a defender. One ball
acts as the goal while the other ball is the match
ball.
Emphasize: Using
fakes
EXERCISE
2: 1
v 1 to Goal

Organization:
Two groups. Defender can only defend
in the grid (12 wide x 5 deep). If attacker
does not make it through the grid past the
defender, she becomes the new
defender. Attackers change lines after
each turn. Attacker must shoot on next touch
after getting into the penalty area.
Emphasize: Using
fakes, accelerating past the defender
Match
Conditions Exercise: 3
v 3 to two small goals

Team
in possession is trying to score in one of the
small goals on the line they are attacking
Emphasize:
Attack
the goal where there is an advantage. Use
dribbling skills to freeze the defender, use
passing tout of necessity to find the open player,
players without the ball should run into good
positions using overlaps and diagonal runs.

Training
September 11 - 14, 2006
WARM-UP:
4 v 4 (or 3 v 3) attacking 3 small goals. (Field
is 40m. wide and 20m. long with 3 small goals on
each end)

Team
in possession is trying to score in one of the
small goals on the line they are attacking
Emphasize:
Attack
the goal where there is an advantage. Use
dribbling skills to freeze the defender, use
passing tout of necessity to find the open player,
players without the ball should run into good
positions using overlaps and diagonal runs.
EXERCISE
1: 3
v 1 Possession

Organization:
4 players in each grid (10 x 15). One
player is a defender and the other three players
try to keep possession for as long as
possible. The defender does not change on
loss of possession but instead on the coaches
signal (rotate once every 1/2 minute to 2
minutes). This guarantees that each player
has an equal opportunity to work on possession -
otherwise those that lose the ball most often are
more often in the middle and are usually the ones
that need the most work on keeping
possession. If the defender wins the ball
she triees to keep the ball as long as possible.
Emphasize: Players
showing into the widest position to receive the
ball with the best possible angle. Pass the
ball away from pressure (defender) and to the
front or inside leg of the player receiving the
ball. Receive the ball in an open position
and with the inside of the foot. Play 1
touch when under pressure and 2 touch when there
is time.
EXERCISE
2: 3
v (1 + 2) Possession

Organization:
Two equal size grids (10 x 15 each grid)
side by side with 3 players in each grid.
One team starts with possession in their grid
while the opposing team sends one player in to
defend and attempt to steal or clear the
ball. The team with 3 v 1 tries to play a
pre-determined number of passes (5 passes or more)
without losing the ball. After 5 passes they
receive a point if they are able to play the ball
across the grid to the remaining 2 players.
The defender then returns to her grid and works
with her teammates to keep possession. The
team that played the ball across sends a player in
to defend and attempt to steal and clear the ball.
If
the defender wins the ball she may play it across
to her teammates and counts as the first pass in
keeping possession. The team that lost the
ball may attempt to steal the ball back before the
defender plays it out of the grid.
Emphasize:

Training
May 1 - 4, 2006
WARM-UP:
4 v 4 (or 3 v 3) two teams attacking the same
goal. Team in possession is trying to score.
Emphasize:
Use
dribbling skills to create a shooting opportunity,
uses passing only to set up someone else for a 1
touch shot, players without the ball should set
themselves up to receive the ball and shoot with 1
touch.
FOOTWORK
WITH THE BALL
(moves are practiced both individually and facing
a partner):
-
Inside
- Inside (touching ball between feet)
-
Rolling
the ball out and touching across the body to
the opposite foot
-
Inside
Chop - Outside Touch (chop inside right -
touch outside left and then visa versa)
-
Fake
outside right - Go outside left (fake behind
the ball with the outside of the foot)
-
Double
Scissors and Go
Emphasize:
use the
entire body including head, shoulders, and leaning
hard to sell the fakes, accelerate after faking
and pushing ball into space for room to
accelerate.
EXERCISE
1: 1 v
1 to Goal
Organization:
10 meters wide and 5 meters long defending area
set up with cones 20 meters from the goal.
One line for players 10 meters further from the defending
area. Every player with a ball except
one defender in the defending area.
Each
player starts with a ball and one at a time
attempts to dribble through the defending area
using fakes and changes of speed to get past the
defender and through to the other side. The
defender may only defend in the 10x5 box (defending
area). Once the defender wins the ball
or clears it out - the player who lost the ball
becomes the next defender and stays until she wins
the ball from someone else.
Emphasize:
Use
previous points and use of various feinting
(fakes) to get the defender off balance, use
change of speed, do not wait for next defender to
get ready - go immediately after previous defender
wins the ball or attacker is through the defending
area, fake to the front side of the defender
and attack the backside.
EXERCISE
2: 4 v
4 (or 6 v 6) to Large Goal with Counter Attack to
2 Small Goals
Organization:
44 yards wide and 36 yards long with large goal on
one side and 2 cones as small goals set up at
angles inside the playing area near the opposite
end.
The
team defending the large goal must attack either
of the small goals and score a point by passing
the ball through the small goal to a teammate on
the other side who MUST successfully receive the
ball. The ball may be passed though from
either side of the small goals.
The
team attacking the large goal tries to score 3
goals on the large goal before the defending team
scores 3 points on the small goals. When the
team defending the large goal scores 3 points they
immediately transition to scoring on the large
goal and the other team must now defend the large
goal.
If
the team attacking the large goal scores 3 points
first, they get to keep attacking the large goal
and the scoring starts over at 0-0.
Emphasize:
All
previous points, team attacking big goal must
create quick shooting opportunities.
